Linen - 1913 By Natalia Gonchavora
This painting portrays the bustle of commercial laundry . it is essentially a painting of various pieces of clothing article. to the left side of the layout is collars ,ties and cuffs all representing men's clothing. And to the right side, blouses and flares. The matching of both on either side of the layout pays homage to the basic theme of polarity and can be tied to the relationship between Natalia Goncharova and her partner.
Its safe to say that the image belongs to the avant-grande movement which was exclusive to Russia alone at the time.It questioned authority and sometimes explores radical views as well.
what this painting means to me is that a couple can decide to make the decision to live together and dedicate their lives to each other is in it for the long run. Meaning that even though the ups and downs, differences and tests of time, their laundry will still be together showing a symbol of hope and empowerment to the relationship.
